ZOOM LENS CONTEST!

In celebration of our latest release by The Bilinda Butchers and their new single, “THE LOVERS’ SUICIDE!,” Zoom Lens is having their first contest!

There is some really cool stuff in here! But first off, the rules…

RULES:

1. You must be following our Tumblr to be eligible (http://zoomlens.tumblr.com)

2. Each reblog counts as an entry. Only (3) reblogs are allowed for the entirety of the contest!

3. You must reblog this entire post!

4. Everyone is eligible if they meet those requirements! Including international fans and even Zoom Lens artists, since I keep all this stuff to myself…

-This CD has only been given at Frequency 2.0 in promotion of Slime Girls and Zoom Lens. This is not something sold, and is only reserved for promotional purposes. I only have three of them. Here you are, take away my High School memories. Grad Night had a “Make Your Own Music Video” booth, so we chose “My Way” by Limp Bizkit. I even made a special cover with me as Fred Durst. (The real thing doesn’t look as cool as the picture).

WOw, our nation’s caption — speechless.

Anyway, got to DC in the night and cooked a lil burrito dinner with our friends from Paperhaus. The wraps were gluten free but we dealt with that well and soon the party started — many souls were in attendance and we played first at 10 to a big group of homies including some Root Cellar folks from the mid atlantic area of the USA. THe set was really good and even the DJ thought so, but our CDs and T-shirts were in darkness so not that many people knew we had them. Not a problem.

Before the show we got sick nasty hair cuts from Andrew of the PaperHaus.

The party was great so it was also late and Henry was drunk and high, we tip toed around some broken glass in the living room in order to take our night’s rest and awoke a little less fresh but with hearts pounding for Richmond.

I'M IN JAPAN, SO HERE'S A LETTER I WROTE TO MY BEST FRIEND ABOUT WHAT IT'S LIKE HERE.

I don’t even know where to start with Japan. I really like it here - for reasons that I wasn’t sure would matter to me. It’s one huge machine. Every single person here is an extremely necessary cog, and is treated as such. Everyone I’ve interacted with has this extraordinary sense of purpose about what they’re doing, and everyone treats you with an incredible amount of respect. I thought the whole rudeness/polite thing was just a matter of saving face, but it seems that the reason that Japan works so well is because they believe it. And it’s all very little things too, like saying good morning and bowing a little bit - but it makes a huge difference. It’s very inclusive. Everyone is very clean, I’ve been waking up at 6am everyday and just taking a walk. Every morning the shopkeeps open their stores, and then walk outside with a tiny dustpan and sweep up the occasional cigarette butt or beer can. They all do it with such determination, it’s insane how much they care about their shop. Everyone here is very much like Jiro/falling in love with their work. Also the way that they treat nature is absolutely fantastic. It sort of falls in with the whole respect thing.

Smoking and drinking are funny things here. One of the big rudeness rules here is that it’s rude to multitask. A big thing is walking while doing something. Walking while smoking is very rude, as is drinking (anything, water, beer) or eating. The idea behind this is not only do you not bother people walking around with your smoke, but you get to stop and enjoy your cigarette. You get “put all of your heart” into smoking.

I think this is a great rule, but it really changes how I smoke. In the city there are “smoking zones” every couple of blocks. They’re these little rooms, sort of like a giant phonebooth where everyone hangs out and smokes. I’ve been smoking less, and enjoying it more. It really feels like “I could go for a cigarette right about now!” rather than “UGH LET’S DO THIS”.

That said, it’s pretty lonely - in sort of a good way. I’ve been jetlagged so I haven’t really ventured out into the night yet (probably will tonight), but last night I promised myself I would buy a beer at a bar. I went to Shimokitazawa, which is basically just brooklyn/williamsburg. It really made me wish I could speak japanese better - now that I’m here all I really say is “This please!” “Thank you!” and “Good morning/afternoon/evening”. That said, smoking in bars/and restaurants/cafes is fantastic. It took me five minutes to communicate “What beer do you have.” to the people working there because my accent is so bad. The faster I talk though, the more people can understand me, which is hilarious though. But walking around late at night is really weird. Very pretty though. It’s incredibly safe here, no skeevy areas so far. There are some “Touts” that try to hustle you though. These Nigerian folks will try to rip you off by basically bullying you into their stores - that’s about as bad as it gets though.

Tokyo is bar none the prettiest place I’ve ever been in my life though. The entire city is just gigantic and it’s completely 3D. It sort of feels like New York was dropped on itself eight times. There are stores along the street, and every building has like 6 floors of different shops, so you could easily spend an hour on one block. It’s all about the little alleyways and the weird food you find by walking down a million flights of stairs. The food rules too, and it’s really cheap!

I don’t know I’m just ranting now. Keep me updated about tour, I really enjoy being penpals! I’m still a bit culture shocked, but I think I fit in nicely here. Whenever I see another white dude we always have this “head-nod” that makes me laugh because there’s something very african american about the way we treat the whole situation. Is that racist? Yeah sort of, but I don’t mean it to be, sorry. I’m overwhelmed and I don’t know how to speak english anymore.
